Where and When?

Pelican Time happens Saturday, Sunday and during the NSW school holidays at 3:30 PM at the famous Pelican Plaza, located right along the beautiful foreshore of The Entrance. This scenic spot overlooks Tuggerah Lakes and the sparkling coastline, making it the perfect setting to enjoy a peaceful afternoon while watching these majestic birds gather. With plenty of seating available, you can relax and take in the views as the pelicans soar in from the skies, land on the water, or waddle across the plaza, creating an unforgettable spectacle.

Why Pelicans?

The pelicans have long been a symbol of The Entrance. The area’s abundant waterways and lakes provide the perfect habitat for these birds, and over time, the local pelican population has grown and become an iconic part of the town’s identity. Pelican Time was originally established by a group of volunteers and businesses to assist injured pelicans and raise awareness about the importance of protecting local wildlife. Today, the event not only offers an entertaining show but also plays a critical role in monitoring the health of the pelican population. Injured or sick birds are spotted and cared for by Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast, ensuring the long-term wellbeing of the species in the area.

A Fun and Educational Experience

Pelican Time isn’t about feeding the pelicans; it’s an opportunity to learn more about these remarkable birds. Pelicans are known for their enormous bills, which they use to scoop up fish, and their ability to soar high above the water in graceful formation. During Pelican Time, experienced volunteers share fascinating facts about the pelicans’ behavior, feeding habits, and their role in the local ecosystem. Kids and adults alike will enjoy learning how these birds interact with their environment and what makes them such extraordinary creatures.
